I was adopted into this culture from age 9. From age 11 to 16, I lived in the islands, for some time in a very remote village where most of the lifestyle was as it had been thousands of years ago. We even made fire with sticks sometimes. I spoke and thought in a new language.

An aunt was a practicing masseuse and her husband set bones. A great grandmother traced her finger down my spine and gave me to know how the knowledge moves through the hands and fingers. I was called on to massage elders.

No, each have their own traditions. Lomilomi can be performed as a dance combined with massage. Samoan culture however is the parent culture of Polynesian cultures of the Pacific Islands. That is why in Hawaii the big island Hawaii mirrors the big island of Samoa, Savaii. And Oahu mirrors Upolu. The languages are very similar, and are related. The cultures probably kept in contact to a limited extent through skilled Polynesian navigation across the vast Pacific Ocean using island zenith stars, knowledge of seasonal star risings/ positions, simiple woven star maps and so on. Many Pacific island dance revues are staffed and perfformed by Samoan dancers who learn the dances of all the island cultures.
Will I have a cultural experience of Samoa in this massage?
Traditional Samoan massage uses coconut oil However the coconut meat is housed in tropical temperatures without benefit of refrigeration, so it has a rancidity that I don't prefer.. I tend to use virgin olive oil, or an organic moisturizer if you prefer. If you have a moisturizer or oil that you like, you may bring it for use in the massage. It would be best if it is organic and uses no genetically modified (GMO) ingredients. I am not performing this massage with props such as music, artwork, incense and so on. It's a sterile clinic with professional chiropractic standard table.
Can I just have a relaxation massage?
This is a therapeutic massage. It is not designed for entertainment. However you may be surprised at what you learn about your body and how to improve it thanks to therapeutic Samoan fofo massage. You don't have to have a particular pain, condition or illness in mind. For a sportsperson this can also help at an elite level, as not all sportspeople, even at the height of their profession, have the best posture. Injuries, including old ones, also come into play.
